Cookies Policy
This Cookies Policy explains whether and how galulu.com uses cookies and similar technologies. In short: it uses an analytics tool, Google Analytics, and an advertising tool, the Meta Pixel, and only if you accept them in our cookie banner. Effective date: October 6, 2026.
This page is a translation of the English original. If the two versions differ, the English version applies.
1. What cookies are
Cookies are small text files that a website can save in your browser. Websites use them to remember things about your visit, such as your login, your settings or the pages you looked at. Some cookies are needed for a site to work. Others are used for analytics or advertising.
Websites can also use similar technologies that do the same kind of job. These include local storage and session storage in your browser, tracking pixels (also called web beacons), and scripts or embedded content from other companies. In this policy, "cookies" covers these technologies too.
2. Cookies on galulu.com
galulu.com is a simple website made of pages, images and styling. It uses only the items below.
Your cookie choice (strictly necessary). When you choose "Accept" or "Decline" in our cookie banner, we save that choice in your browser's local storage (as galulu-cookie-consent) so that we don't ask again on every page. It is not sent to us or to anyone else. It stays until you change your choice or clear your browser data.
Google Tag Manager (loads the tools below, on every page). Every page loads Google Tag Manager, a script from Google that starts Google Analytics only after you accept, following your choice. It does not set cookies or measure your visit by itself. Like any file your browser downloads from another company's server, Google receives your IP address and browser information when it is loaded.
Google Analytics (analytics, only if you accept).
- Provider: Google (Google Ireland Limited for visitors in Europe; Google LLC elsewhere).
- Purpose: understanding how our website is used, so that we can improve it, for example which pages are visited, how visitors find us, and which booking buttons and links are used.
- What it does: it sets Google Analytics cookies on galulu.com (
_gaand_ga_E7JBT2L8VY, each expiring 2 years after it was last set) and sends Google information about your visit: the pages you view, the page you came from, your browser and device, your approximate location (country and city, worked out from your IP address), what you use on our pages (booking buttons, links to our Shinjuku page, email, phone, Instagram and TikTok, the film's play and sound buttons, FAQ questions you open and gallery photos you open), how far down a page you scroll, how long a page stays open, and links you follow to other websites. - Google Analytics deletes the detailed information about your visits (event and user level) after 14 months; reports that only show totals are kept longer. We have not switched on Google signals, and we do not use Google Analytics for advertising.
- Where: Google may process this information in the United States and other countries outside Japan and Europe.
- Google handles this information under its own Privacy Policy; see also how Google uses information from sites that use its services.
Meta Pixel (advertising, only if you accept).
- Provider: Meta (Meta Platforms Ireland Limited for visitors in Europe; Meta Platforms, Inc. elsewhere).
- Purpose: measuring and improving our ads, for example counting how many people visit our website after seeing an ad.
- What it does: it loads a script from Meta, sets Meta cookies on galulu.com (such as
_fbp, and_fbcwhen you arrive by clicking a link on Facebook or Instagram, for example one of our ads; each expires 90 days after it was last set, and Meta may renew it when you visit again) and sends Meta information about your visit: the pages you view, your IP address, browser and device information, and those cookie identifiers. If you are logged in to Facebook or Instagram in the same browser, Meta may link this information to your account. - Where: Meta may process this information in the United States and other countries outside Japan and Europe.
- Meta handles this information under its own Privacy Policy.
Apart from these, our website does not use other analytics or advertising tools, does not embed social media posts, videos, maps or "like" buttons, has no contact forms or account login, and loads nothing else from other companies' servers. Our fonts and images are served from our own website. Our other scripts open the menu on phones, run the photo viewer, animate the page, show the cookie banner and note which of the buttons and links listed above you use, for Google Analytics. They do not send information about you anywhere else, and what you use reaches Google only if you accept.
Your choice. When you first visit, a banner asks whether you accept Google Analytics and the Meta Pixel. "Accept" and "Decline" are equally easy to choose, and neither runs unless you accept. You can change your choice at any time with "Cookie settings" at the bottom of every page. If you withdraw your consent, we stop both and delete their cookies from galulu.com. Information about what you did in the few seconds before you withdraw may still be sent. Google and Meta may already have received information from earlier visits; see their privacy policies for how to manage it.
3. What our hosting server records
Our website is hosted by Xserver, a Japanese hosting company. Like almost any website, when your browser asks for one of our pages or images, it automatically sends some standard information to the hosting server. This information is not a cookie, and nothing is saved on your device. It includes:
- your IP address;
- your browser and device information (the "user agent");
- the page or file you asked for;
- the page you came from (the "referrer"), if your browser sends it;
- the date and time of the request.
The hosting server keeps this information in access logs for 30 days, and in error logs (for requests that cause an error) for 7 days. We use these logs only to run the website, keep it secure and fix problems. We do not use them to build profiles of visitors or for advertising.
Our Privacy Policy explains how GALULU handles personal information.
4. Other services you may visit from our website
Our website links, or will link, to the following services, which are run by other companies:
- RESERVA, a Japanese online reservation service. Bookings, including online prepayment, are made through RESERVA's booking pages, not on galulu.com.
- Instagram (@galulu.tokyo).
- TikTok (@galulu.tokyo).
We do not embed content from these services on galulu.com, so they cannot set cookies through our website. (Google Tag Manager, Google Analytics and the Meta Pixel described in section 2 are separate; Google Analytics and the Meta Pixel run only if you accept them.) If you click a link and visit one of these services, you are no longer on galulu.com. That service, and any payment service used during booking, may set its own cookies and use similar technologies. It may also be able to see that you arrived from galulu.com. These services follow their own cookie and privacy policies, which we do not control. Please read those policies on their websites.
5. How to manage cookies in your browser
Most browsers let you:
- see which cookies are stored and delete them;
- block all cookies, or only third-party cookies;
- clear cookies and site data automatically when you close the browser;
- browse in a private or incognito window, which does not keep cookies after you close it.
You can usually find these options in your browser's settings under "Privacy" or "Security". For exact steps, see the help pages for your browser or device.
Blocking cookies does not stop galulu.com from working. If you block local storage, we cannot remember your cookie choice, so the banner may appear again. Blocking cookies may also stop some features working on other websites, such as online booking pages.
6. Changes to this policy
If we change how our website uses cookies or similar technologies, we will update this Cookies Policy and change the effective date at the top of this page.
If we add any other cookies or similar technologies that the website does not strictly need, such as analytics or other advertising tools, we will do three things first:
- update this Cookies Policy to explain what they are, who provides them and why we use them;
- ask for your consent before using them;
- give you an easy way to change your choice later.
